TRITON
Description
Autonomous Transplant Drone
Project type
Personal Project
“MOTHER OF THE OCEAN” is often used to describe coral. They offer essential services, including coastline protection, habitat for innumerable marine species, and support for local economies through fishing and tourism. Coral reefs are estimated to feed a quarter of the world's marine life and are thus ecologically important. However, these dynamic ecosystems are also severely threatened by climate change, pollution, ocean acidification, etc. For this reason, coral reef biodiversity is decreasing alarmingly, and essential ecosystem functions are being lost.
Triton is an underwater drone that automatically transplants coral to restore marine ecosystems. It features eco-friendly artificial coral reefs that create stable environments for coral growth while avoiding harm to the ocean. Its soft lattice legs adapt to uneven surfaces and support the transplanting process. Equipped with AI and sensors, Triton tracks coral growth conditions, providing vital data for conservation research.
